Following last week’s rumors on Amazon’s upcoming smartphone, more details have just emerged, pointing to an imminent release of the device in the coming months.

Wall Street Journal reports that officials of several Amazon’s parts suppliers claim that the company is currently testing a smartphone, which will enter mass production as early as December 2012, or early next year.

Other details unveiled by WSJ’s sources said that Amazon’s unannounced smartphone would have a large display measuring between 4 and 5 inches.

So far, we’ve been unable to learn whether or not the Amazon smartphone will be powered by Android platform.

However, Amazon seems to have taken this project seriously and it won’t come as a surprise if the company makes an official announcement in the next few months. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
