The holidays are fast approaching and Amazon wants to make sure that everything is prepared in time. As it has accustomed us in many years, the company will be hiring a lot of new temporary employees.

More specifically, Amazon wants 80,000 new temporary employees to fill in its expanding logistics and delivery network so that it can make sure that all orders are delivered on time.

The company’s announcement indicates that it wants to hire the thousands of new workers to staff the network of fulfillment and sortation centers, indicating that the company once more estimates huge sales in the next couple of months.

“So far this year, we have converted more than 10,000 seasonal employees in the US into regular, full-time roles and we’re looking forward to converting thousands more across our growing network of fulfillment and sortation centers after this holiday season,” said the company’s Mike Roth, vice president of North America operations.

“We’re excited to be creating 80,000 seasonal jobs, thousands of which will lead to regular, full-time roles with benefits starting on day one and innovative programs like Career Choice for employees to further pursue their education,” he added.

Career Choice is a program Amazon offers to full time employees where it pre-pays up to 95 percent of tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, regardless of whether the skills are relevant to a career at Amazon. Of course, considering Amazon’s expanding area of interest, it seems that it has a hand in everything these days.

A huge company that keeps on growing

Amazon has over 50 fulfillment centers in the United States Alone, and by the end of 2014, it will have more than 15 sortation centers. The entire system works towards making sure that deliveries are on time, that orders can be delivered on the weekend, within a day or a few hours in the cities where such offers are available.

In 2013, Amazon hired about 70,000 temporary employees in the United States and an additional 15,000 in the United Kingdom. The company has yet to announce just how many new people it wants to employ for temporary positions in Europe.

Either way, it’s expected that this will be a very busy season for the ecommerce giant. Recent reports indicate that the company will open some brick-and-mortar shops in New York and San Francisco where it will most likely display the Kindle devices, as well as its set-top box and the smartphone and tablets it has launched in recent years. Furthermore, this will be a place where people will be able to pick up orders on the go.
