A would-be competitor for Apple’s Mac App Store, Amazon’s Mac Download Store prides itself with offering 250 of the biggest software and game titles available for Mac, including a $5 discount on any product purchased by the end of this month.

“Celebrate our new Mac downloads stores and save $5 on any Mac game or software product through June 1, 2011,” Amazon says.

To benefit from the offer, customers must click the "Buy and download" button on the product they have chosen, and then enter the code SAVE5MAC in the "Gift Cards and Promotions" box.

The limit is 1 discount per customer, Amazon said, adding that the “Mac Download store features an install-less download process where the customer gets just the product without any unwanted extras, making for faster and easier purchases.”

“Plus, downloads are conveniently backed up in your Games and Software Library where you can download an unlimited number of times for personal use,” the online retailer added.

PC users need to install the Amazon Game/Software Downloader to complete any purchase, whereas on the Mac Downloader will automatically launch and start downloading the software.

As confirmed by Amazon, customers can download an unlimited number of times for personal use.

They can also re-download a deleted piece of software by going to their “Games and Software Library” through the "Your Digital Items" link.

Since each game manufacturer has a different policy on how many installations are allowed with a product key, users may or may not be allowed to install on multiple machines.

This all has to do with the developer mostly, but Amazon still wants to help:

“If you run out of installations for the product key you originally purchased from Amazon, please contact Customer Service and we will happily provide you with another key at no additional charge,” the giant online retailer confirms.

“You can install an unlimited number of times for personal use, however additional copies of the game for friends or family must be purchased separately,” Amazon clarifies.
