American online retailer Amazon today offers an updated version of its Cloud Drive Photos app for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, offering “a completely re-designed Cloud Drive Photos experience with features that bring enjoyment back to viewing photos and videos on the go.”

A free download from the iTunes App Store, Amazon Cloud Drive Photos allows users to store and then enjoy their personal library of photos and videos anywhere. A free account offers 5 GB of storage, and you can extend it with a monthly/annual fee.

“Your photos and personal videos are saved to the cloud automatically so you don’t have to worry about losing them, even if your device gets lost or damaged.”

The online retailer advises customers to download and install Cloud Drive on their desktop computers too, “so you can have your entire collection in one place.”

Amazon Cloud Drive Photos version 3.0 comes with “a completely re-designed Cloud Drive Photos experience with features that bring enjoyment back to viewing photos and videos on the go,” according to the company.

Among the key enhancements delivered in this release, Amazon mentions simpler navigation of the app’s interface thanks to added shortcuts to the most frequently used services.

Sorting gets a boost with the ability to view all your videos in one album, while photos can be arranged by date and name. When you send a file to the cloud now you can see the progress and status of your automatic or manual uploads.

A Timeline feature has been added, described as “the new way to view your history of photos and videos with the press of a finger.” Background uploads are also improved, and you can set the app to automatically save photos and videos for you.

Finally, Amazon has included some fixes to address reported crashes and other bugs. The company says, “If you enjoy using Cloud Drive Photos, please take a minute to leave a nice review: it really helps.” Of course, you don’t have to leave a nice review if the app doesn’t work for you.

That being said, Amazon Cloud Drive Photos requires iOS 7.0 as minimum and works with iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPad second generation, iPad third generation, iPad fourth generation, iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad mini with Retina display, and iPod touch fifth generation.

Supported languages include English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, and Spanish.
