They should be up for sale at $49 / €49 and $99 / €99 now, respectively

The Kindle line of e-book readers is the most successful in this market, and it might become even more successful now that prices have been reduced.

The simple Kindle e-book reader should be up for sale at $49 / €49 now, while the Kindle Paperwhite (with a better screen) should ship for $99 / €99.

That's about $20 / €20 off the previous price, but it won't last forever. Mostly, it's meant to give you a chance to get a Mother’s Day gift for less than the usual rate.

It might also suggest that Amazon is preparing to release a new e-reader or two, but this is just speculation. There hasn't been much in the way of rumors to this effect, so the odds aren't very high.

Anyway, if you're in the market for a touch-capable pad that displays any and all e-books you have ever bought, the Kindle / Kindle Paperwhite might be the thing for you (or your mother). The product page on the official website has all the information you need.

It looks like even the optional accessories are selling for less than the normal rate (power adapter, black leather cover, screen protector, elastic strap cover). Only the warranty comes for the same sum.
