E-readers may not be getting as much attention as they used to, what with tablets eating up most of the media's time, but they aren't about to fade into obscurity either, especially now that their prices are getting so low.

Amazon's Kindle is the figurehead of the e-book reader market and has been since 2009, especially after it became a best selling item.

Since then, it has gone through two revisions, meaning that the product is now at its third generation.

As time went by, the device, as well as its rivals (like B&N's Nook) got increasingly more affordable while the amount of digitized books grew at a rapid pace.

Now, it appears that Amazon took another step towards even better availability and affordability, plus convenience.

For one, the Kindle e-reader should now feature special ads that notifies end-users of special offers.

This is just a perk, however, as the real piece of news is that the price was brought down by $25, ending up at $114.

"We are working hard to make sure that anyone who wants a Kindle can afford one. Kindle with Special Offers is the same #1 bestselling Kindle - and it's only $114. Kindle is the best deal in consumer electronics anywhere in the world," said Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com founder and chief executive.

In addition to special ads, the Kindle also got sponsored screensavers (customers get to preview them with AdMash and vote on the most popular one).

“The opportunity to offer custom-designed Kindle screensavers was a natural fit for Buick because Kindle is such a unique device surrounded by a community of intelligent, passionate people,” said Craig Bierley, Director of Advertising and Promotions, Buick.

“Kindle’s high contrast e-ink display eliminates glare and is perfect for emotionally engaging and impactful brand imagery, allowing us to connect with Kindle readers wherever and whenever.”
