Amazon’s newest Kindle Fire HDX slates have been well received by consumers

Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD tablets proved to be quite popular on the Western market, managing to steal away from the competition a good number of customers.

But in the East things are not going too smoothly for the tablets. According to information provided by IDC, Amazon managed to ship only 8,300 units since the company brought the offerings to Chinese lands.

What seems to be the problem here is that even if the tech giant is selling the slates at a relatively affordable price of $246 / €180, this is still no match for what the local white box vendors are releasing in terms of super cheap Android tablets (some of them selling models with as little as $49 / €36.)

Small white box vendors actually accounted for 39% of the entire Chinese tablet market in the last quarter and Amazon is finding hard to compete against them, says ItProPortal.

The company has recently introduced a new Kindle software version that supports Chinese language, in the hopes of attracting more buyers. On top of that the tablets can be purchased via one of the country’s biggest retailer, Suning, but China is a developing market and price is still a very important when it comes to tablet shopping.
