The low-cost but resourceful tablet directly challenges the iPad

Few things can help a product gain notoriety or fame more than openly challenging another successful product, and Amazon is doing just that.

The online store has released a new commercial for the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 tablet, one that outright compares it to Apple's tablet.

Amazon shows how the screens are both high-end and that the Fire HD can do everything the iPad can but for a much lower price.

It isn't exactly an accurate portrayal, since the iPad has a 9.7-inch display with a pixel density of 256 ppi (pixels per inch) versus the 8.9-inch 254ppi panel of the Fire HD. There are different operating systems as well.

Still, it is true that the iPad sells for $499 / 499 Euro while Amazon's device is sold for as little as $299 / 299 Euro.
