One more confirmation that battery technology really needs to evolve

We already had a pretty good idea about what Amazon has hidden under the 7-inch screen of its hugely popular Kindle Fire tablet, but taking a look at the insides of such gadgets is always fun for us geeks, so iFixit has taken the Fire apart for our enjoyment.

Rather unsurprisingly, the most imposing feature of the Amazon tablet is its large battery that occupies most of the space available inside.

This 4400mAh, 16.28Whr battery is what enabled Amazon to provide us with the impressive 7.5 hours of video playback time that many have praised in the Kindle Fire.

Of course that other hardware is also installed in there, such as that dual-core TI OMAP ARM-based processor, 8GB of flash storage, 512MB of DDR2 RAM or the WiFi and audio chips, but these take up just a third of the space available as they are all packed on a single PCB.

More photos of the teardown are available in the galley bellow, and of course in the original iFixit article.
