Amazon has certainly proved to be a serious tablet competitor today, unveiling a line of new Kindle Fire HDX tablets. And on top of that, it added a revised Kindle Fire HD tablet with a new price tag.

The upgraded slate was also introduced by Amazon.com Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos who said “Two years ago, we revolutionized the tablet industry with the breakthrough of $199 / €148 price point for tablets- now we're doing it again with the $139 / €103 price point.”

The slate features an HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. It is powered by a 1.5Ghz processor (which is 60% faster than the previous Kindle Fire) and is notably slimmer in design.

Most notably Amazon has updated the Fire HD tablet operating system to Fire OS 3.0 placing it at the same level as the HDX model. New features like the X-Ray for Music, Prime Instant Video downloads and Second Screen have also been added to the revamped slate.

The new Kindle Fire HD is available for pre-order as of today, but Amazon will start shipping it October 2.
