Nowadays, when the limited natural resources are under tremendous pressure as they have to nourish 7 billion inhabitants, the major apparel companies try to remain competitive while looking for sustainable innovation. After being inspired by Amazon's indigenous inhabitants, 01M OneMoment launched an original line of rubber socks, manufactured out of biodegradable raw materials.

Available on almost every color you could imagine, you most likely wouldn't wear them at a fancy dinner party, but they could be a great eco-friendly option when you think about a day spent at the beach or a walk through the rain.

Taking into account the fact that the tiny items are compact and have a little weight, you could probably pack 30 pairs while using the same space a pair of regular shoes would occupy.

The company is keen on reducing its environmental impact. Therefore, products and packaging are made from 100% biodegradable materials and depend on a single injection operation and a single packaging operation.

The product is only 1 mm thin. Maybe some of the potential buyers would think that its dimensions would make the item unsuitable for long walks. Their manufacturers prove them wrong.

“During use, some people consider our shoes too thin. It has been done on purpose and listening to world-class specialists in foot gear. Barefoot walking is the very best way of, not only pumping the heart, but for the complete weight supporting body structure,” stated the people behind this project.

Officials say their products offer a winning combination: flexibility, quality, sensitivity and ergonomy, after a multi disciplinary team of architects, product designers and shoemakers joined efforts to achieve versatility.

The product was inspired by the trend launched in the past by Amazon indigenous inhabitants, who used to paint their feet using natural latex, in order to walk easier through the jungle during rainy days.

Besides the fact that the multi-functional shoe/sock is made out of eco-friendly materials, its manufacturing process relies on less energy, and, therefore, it implies a lower amount of CO2 emissions.

Their production depends on only one polymer injection. The biodegradable polymer can guarantee the product's sustainability, while its manufacturers offer a great variety of colors.

The product, launched this year in Spain, will most likely become popular in no-time, since it costs only 10€. Starting January 2012, the kids will also be able to enjoy the benefits offered by a pair of these colorful, earth-friendly shoes.
