Amazon wants to use the Fire name for its mobile business

Amazon has been accused of neglect when it comes to its popular Kindle family, as the retail giant has failed to roll out any updates for its products since 2013.

Anyway, this has changed in the past few hours as the device makers has unleashed a host of new updated models plus an important OS update.

The Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7 got a makeover too. It’s quite similar to the super-budget Fire HD 6 tablet I detailed for you earlier today, the main difference being that it has a 7-inch screen.

Also, instead of having to pay a sub-100 buck price, you’ll now have to take $139 / €108out of your pocket.

So expect to get a tablet with a 7-inch display, boasting 1280 x 800 pixel resolution, a 1.5GHZ processor, 8GB / 16GB of internal storage and single-band Wi-Fi. It also takes advantage of Amazon's latest OS based on Android 4.4 KitKat, Sangria.

The device is said to provide up to 8 hours of battery life and measures 7.5 x 5 x 0.4 inches / 190 x 127 x 10.16 mm while weighing 11.9 ounces / 337 g.

It’s interesting to note that, like in the case of the Fire HD 6, Amazon has chosen to renounce the Kindle moniker. It appears Amazon is moving towards adopting the Fire name for its line of smartphones and tablets, while Kindle will be reserved for its host of high-end devices.
