Tablets for kids aren’t a novelty anymore and a lot are being currently offered. And Amazon is the latest tech player to enter the dance, with the new Amazon Fire HD Kids Edition slate.

In terms of specifications, the kiddie-friendly tab is exactly the same with the Amazon Fire HD 6 and Fire HD 7, but it comes with a few perks and tweaks.

For starters, the child tab takes advantage of a tough case, to help maintain the device intact even as it rests in the clumsy hands of a tiny human.

On top of that, Amazon throws in a free 1-year subscription to Amazon FreeTime Unlimited (library of games, books and video) and a 2-year worry-free warranty.

That means that if the tough case doesn’t prove to be resistant enough or something goes horribly wrong internally with your tab, Amazon will replace your device ASAP, no questions asked.

The Fire HD for children takes advantage of parental controls and thanks to FreeTime Unlimited adults won’t have to worry about in-app purchases.

As for specs, they are identical to the Fire HD 6 and Fire HD 7, which means it has a 1.5GHz quad-core processor or 8GB / 16GB of internal storage. Price range starts at $149 / €116 if you want the 6-inch model and it can go up to $189 / €147 for the 7-inch model.
