Amazon only sold eBooks in the country up until now

Amazon has been a presence on the eBook market in Brazil ever since 2012, but the search giant didn’t sell any of its eReaders in the country, and the only way customers could acquire a Kindle was through third-party re-sellers.

But Amazon recently announced that it was remedying the situation by beginning to sell the entire line of eReaders in the country.

The problem the Brazilian market faces is that, due to high import fees, tech products such as eReaders, tablets, or smartphones arrive in the country with a chunky price tag, thus making them inaccessible to the average users.

According to the official site, the basic Kindle model will be priced around BRL 229 / $96 / €181, while the most expensive Kindle PaperWhite 3G will cost BRL 699 / $264 / €497.

Amazon is currently testing the Brazilian market by shipping the devices to the country. Historically, Brazil hasn’t been a lofty place for the reading business, and publishing houses tend to limit their number of their offerings, so does Amazon stand a chance?
