Publisher Activision and comic book company Marvel have announced that a new Spider-Man video game will be launched during the summer of next year, as a tie-in to the movie that Sony Picture Entertainment is planning to launch at the same time.

The Amazing Spider-Man title will be a sort of stand-alone episode that takes place after the plot of the movie, with the comic book hero fighting a variety of villains who are threatening Manhattan.

Development on the game is being handled by Beenox and the story is being created by Seamus Kevin Fahey, who has written for both Battlestar Galactica and for Spartacus: Gods of the Arena.

The main mechanic will be something called the Web Rush, which allows for more acrobatic moves and better control over how Spider-Man moves.

The publisher has not detailed the exact character line-up for The Amazing Spider-Man video game or the platforms on which it will appear.
