The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the video game linked to the movie with the same name, has managed to take the number one position in the United Kingdom chart during its first week on the market despite the fact that many players were unsure about the quality of the final experience.

The title was created by Beenox and published by Activision and is designed to allow fans of the universe to control the superhero as he explores New York City and to battle some of the best known villains of the franchise.

The plot is pretty convoluted and is designed to be linked with the events of the movie that has also just been released, starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was generally well received by gamers despite the fact that the movie tie-in genre tends to lack the quality that most fans expect.

Second place in the United Kingdom for the week that ended on May 3 is occupied by a previous number one, Titanfall from Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts, which has managed to improve its standing after the Xbox 360 version of the shooter was launched.

Gamers can also enjoy the title on the PC and the Xbox One and during the coming month, players will get access to the first downloadable content pack for it, which will introduce new maps, just as the developers are also adding new modes and tweaking the core gameplay balance.

FIFA 14, the football simulation from EA Sports, occupies the last position on the podium and has managed to gain a place since the previously tracked period, showing the long-term appeal of the experience that was launched in the fall of last year.

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, another EA Sports made experience, has lost two places in order to reach fourth, but it continues to generate sales as players are getting ready for the real-world final tournament that will start in early June.

Call of Duty: Ghosts, the first-person shooter from Infinity Ward and Activision, is in fifth place this week, according to UKIE, losing two positions, and is followed by the Xbox 360 version of the indie hit Minecraft, which seems unable to move from sixth.

LEGO The Hobbit, the title from Warner Bros. that allows gamers to relive the events of the first two movies based on the J.R.R. Tolkien book, is in seventh place and is followed by another title based on bricks, which is built around the events of the LEGO Movie.

Child of Light is in ninth place and Battlefield 4 closes down the UK top ten.
