Actress talks to Elle UK Magazine about insecurities, working out for the “perfect” body

Amanda Seyfried is like a breath of fresh air. Unlike many female stars, be it from film or music or the fashion industry, who claim they’re naturally skinny no matter how much they eat, she is never shy to speak the truth: looking movie-ready at all times is a very difficult, very time-consuming task. And she hates it.

Seyfried will be seen next in “A Million Ways to Die in the West” and, to promote it, she sat down for a chat with Elle UK, in which she also touches on topics like body image, her personal body insecurities and what it’s like to be always striving to have the “perfect” body.

Not that she thinks there is such a thing, mind you. Amanda knows that it doesn’t exist but, at the same time, she is also aware of the pressure on her to attain it. It’s Hollywood’s inescapable paradox.

“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t constantly aware of what I’m doing with my body. I don’t have to look like a supermodel. I don’t have to have these abs — the camera doesn’t see that. But because we have all been designed to want these things, I’m a victim of this stuff too,” Amanda says.

There is hope, though. “Thank God for Kate Upton. She’s a supermodel, she has curves. She’s like the new image of beauty and thank god,” the actress continues.

She is referring, of course, to the hottest model right now. Kate was discovered by pure chance after a YouTube video of her doing the dougie went viral. Unlike most catwalk models, Kate has curves, like Amanda also points out: she has large breasts and a backside and isn’t a size 0-2.

Upton initially grabbed headlines as an underwear model but, in recent months, she’s also been doing high fashion work, even landing the cover of the Fashion Bible, Vogue – the UK edition, no less. She is slowly but surely changing the way beauty is perceived in the fashion industry, there’s no denying that.

Amanda says in the same interview that, albeit happy a woman with curves is breaking the mold, she still has to put in the hard work to look her best at all times. She works out for an entire hour every day of the week and, if the situation requires it, she also limits calories to shift a few more pounds.

“[I do] the occasional raw diet for a single week, just to cleanse. I’m just not into hardcore anything. If I go on a diet, I can’t quit something. Emotionally, I need sugar in my life. I like wine. And coffee. It’s like, coffee, you can’t drink coffee?” Amanda asks.
