Amanda Knox and boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were charged and then cleared of the 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher, but they’re getting ready for the case to go to trial once more. For the first time ever, Sollecito speaks out.

Savannah Guthrie of The Today Show nabbed an exclusive with him, as the video below will confirm.

Among other things, Sollecito explains why he stood by Knox despite pressure to point her out as the killer, even though he had only known her for a few days.

He also insists that they are innocent of the murder, and is confident another trial will reach to the same conclusion.

“(Amanda) told me that she thinks that I’m a kind of hero, but I don’t feel so. And I don’t need any kind of gratitude... I did it because I know it’s the truth. It’s the good thing to do. It’s the only way for me,” Sollecito says.

Raffaele and Amanda are still friends, and both have written books about the 4 years they spent in prison for a crime they did not commit.
