Amanda Knox is safely in the US, waiting to see what comes out of the appeal in the Meredith Kercher murder case, which saw the Italian Supreme Court pass on the guilty verdict for the second time on both her and ex-boyfriend Rafaelle Sollecito.

Meanwhile, Rafaelle is back in Italy, looking at a minimum of 21 years behind bars, as he’s already served 4 of the 25-year sentence. According to a new report, for the first time since the case came out to light, he’s turning on her former lover.

Both Sollecito and Knox were accused of the 2007 murder of Kercher, who was Amanda’s roommate at the time. A second man was also arrested (and is currently in prison) in connection to the murder, which seemed to have taken place when Meredith refused to engage in relations with these three.

Knox and Sollecito have always maintained their innocence, even after spending 4 years behind bars, being acquitted, going back to trial and being sentenced to prison on a guilty verdict again. What’s changed is that Sollecito is turning on Knox now, Radar Online writes.

He does that by pointing in a new interview that she “went home to shower after leaving his apartment and was noticeably agitated when she returned hours later with claims her front door had been broken in.” This happened in the hours leading up to the discovery of Kercher’s body.

Sollecito isn’t very direct about it, but he does say that this odd behavior confused him, to the point where he even confronted Amada.

“Certainly I asked her questions. Why did you take a shower? Why did she spend so much time there? I [still] don’t have answers,” he says.

Today show legal analyst Lisa Bloom sees in this Sollecito’s attempt to distance himself from Amanda, to let her take the fall if the appeal doesn’t go in their favor. “He’s saying there’s some evidence that applies to her that doesn’t apply to him. Why the change of heart? Last year he told Savannah Guthrie, ‘The real facts are that we are innocent,’” Bloom argues.

Earlier this month, in an interview with Anderson Cooper, Sollecito tried to do the same by stressing that the only “crime” he was guilty of was that of being Amanda’s boyfriend and adding that, as far as he knew, he hadn’t done anything wrong.

“I don't know what to think, because objectively, there's nothing against me and nothing very strong against Amanda,” he also said. The emphasis is ours.
