The former Nickelodeon star Amanda Bynes has struck a plea deal in the case in which she was accused of drunk driving, getting a 3-year probation, during which she must conform to a set of regulations that are aimed at preventing similar behavior, according to E online.

Part of the probation is the fact that she has to undergo a 3-month alcohol education course, as well as paying a fine and entering a no-contest plea to reckless driving. In exchange for all of the above, her DUI charge is going to be dismissed by the court.

The charge is also known as a “wet reckless” and is said to be among the lowest offenses prosecutors can allow a suspect to plea in the case of a DUI.

The entire affair stems from an incident that took place in April 2012, when Bynes struck with her BMW she was driving at the time a police cruiser in West Hollywood. Though the damage to both cars was minimal, being listed as just paint swapping, the 27-year-old actress was taken into custody and booked on DUI charges.

After that incident, Bynes managed to rack up several other police run-ins, and that includes the famous bong-throwing incident when officers accused her of flinging her drug paraphernalia out of the window of a New York high-rise apartment.

That case was dropped out of court just last month. But that didn't prevent her from spending four months in residential psychiatric care last year, following a stint of bizarre behavior which culminated with trying to set fire to a neighbor's driveway.

It was at this time that she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and began treatment.

The actress was not present in court when the verdict was given, as she was making efforts to put her life back on the right track. She was released from rehab in December under the custody of her mother and has since enlisted for classes at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Orange County.

So far, 2014 seems to be going well for Bynes, who, by all accounts, seems to be on her way to a full recovery, something also shared by her optimistic parents which are hoping to bring the troubled young actress on the right path.

After leaving rehab, Bynes was seen on numerous occasions with her parents around town, sparking speculations that she was taking her time to rekindle her relationship with them. This included a recent trip to the Miracle Fitness Retreat in Utah.
