There was a time when Amanda Bynes would be very vocal on Twitter about her desire to go below 100 pounds (45.3 kg) no matter the method used to shift the extra pounds. That was also the time when she was plagued by drug abuse rumors, when she was said to have developed an eating disorder, and when she would wander the streets of New York talking to herself.

The Amanda of today seems to have found peace and the road back to health again. She was held against her will for psychiatric evaluation after she tried to set some woman’s alley on fire, was hospitalized, and eventually went to rehab

Like Britney Spears before her, Bynes was placed under a conservatorship, with her parents named as co-conservators, the people in charge of every detail of her life, from her finances to where she lives and who she hangs out with.

The change has done her good because it was just what she needed. The star, who retired from acting to move to New York and pursue a career in fashion, turned 28 last week and, like any other student, she took herself for spring break for some fun in the sun. Unlike most students, Amanda could afford a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

She also returned to Twitter to thank her fans for the birthday wishes and to include two photos of herself in a two-piece swimsuit that shows off her new, much healthier figure. “Thank you everyone for all the birthday wishes,” she writes in a post accompanying a photo of herself standing in front of a mirror.

She’s wearing a neon yellow swimsuit and she’s looking over her shoulder at the camera. In another photo, Amanda, wearing the same swimsuit, is lounging on a chair by the pool and smiling widely at the camera.

She doesn’t say – and the photos offer no indication as to that – whether she’s on vacation with her parents but, considering that she and her mother have been inseparable ever since she was released from hospital and rehab, it’s probably safe to assume they went on “spring break” together.

While in New York, Amanda did very little fashion designing even though that was the purpose of her relocating there. However, now that she’s been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and has received treatment for both, she’s finally going to school, attending classes at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising.
