Age has nothing to do with retirement – and actress Amanda Bynes is the perfect example of that. Though she’s been flying somewhat under the radar for a while, the star took to her Twitter over the weekend to share with her followers what can only be a sad news: she’s realized she doesn’t like acting anymore, therefore, she’s done with it, as E! Online can confirm.

The star, who appeared mostly in television shows and a handful of romantic comedies, but of whom critics would often say she had plenty of potential to build a lasting career, says there is nothing about acting that appeals to her now. Since she’s not the type to go with something just for the sake of it (meaning, without believing in it), she’s retiring from the industry – and she wants to be the first to put the news out there.

“We haven’t seen much of Amanda Bynes since, ummm, her 2007 smash hit Sydney White (you saw it right?), but TV funnygal turned movie star turned Hills dude’s girlfriend is bowing out of the acting game at the ripe old age of... 24?!” E! writes with a touch of incredulity. “‘I don’t love acting anymore so I’ve stopped doing it,’ Bynes tweeted around 3 a.m. Saturday morning. But why the sudden change of heart? According to the onetime Nickelodeon kid, ‘Being an actress isn’t as fun as it may seem. I’ve never written the movies & tv shows I’ve been apart of, I’ve only acted like the characters the producers or directors wanted me to play’,” the report further reads.

“Bynes, who’s headlined not one, but two television shows since age 13, went on to say: ‘If I don’t love something anymore I stop doing it.’ Hence, the abrupt end to her still-budding acting career. And just to make sure we understood what she was trying to say, Bynes wrapped up her rant with a pretty solid declaration. ‘I know 24 is a young age to retire,’ she wrote, ‘but you heard it here first I’ve retired’,” the report goes on to say.

Still, E! points out, the world should not lose hope, for Bynes still has another movie coming out: “Easy A,” which arrives in theaters this fall. This gives her ample time to have a change of heart. Cases of other stars that retired and then made a “comeback” only a couple of years later are not few – just think Jay-Z.
