Yesterday, word got out online that troubled star Amanda Bynes had moved from the UCLA Medical Center to a Malibu celebrity rehab 3 weeks ago, which prompted questions on whether her hospitalization had been caused by drug abuse and not mental issues as initially believed.

Her parents, Rick and Lynn Bynes, who are now acting as temporary conservators while she seeks the help she needs, are telling TMZ that this was not the case.

However, they insist, moving to rehab was just the thing she needed.

“Amanda's parents – through their lawyer Tamar Arminak – say the move was on the advice of doctors at UCLA, and that she is making ‘great strides towards recovery’,” the celebrity publication writes.

Apparently, the biggest problem with Amanda remaining at UCLA was that she was constantly afraid to go out of her room because “she was stuck with people in much worse condition than her.”

She also could not get one-on-one treatment because resources were limited, so spending some time in rehab should solve that.

“She is getting specialized psych care, one on one treatment, not drug rehab,” the attorney says for TMZ.

Insiders add that Amanda is “able to walk around the grounds, see the ocean and ride the horses” for a monthly bill of $55,000 (€40,674).

Amanda’s life took a turn for the disastrous this summer, when she was put on an involuntary psychiatric hold after she started a fire in a driveway and she was deemed a danger to herself and others.

For a while, her attorney tried to argue in court against her parents for the need for the 5150 hold to be cut short because she was fine. A judge ruled she must get proper treatment, and she hasn’t been seen in public since.

Months before this episode, Amanda had moved from Los Angeles to New York amidst reports of heavy drinking and drug use, saying she was ditching her acting career to become a fashion designer.
