Actress is charged with driving under the influence but not with hit and run

Actress Amanda Bynes is officially in trouble with the law: she's been charged with DUI from her April arrest, when she allegedly got behind of the wheel intoxicated and clipped a police car. However, she knows someone who could help: the President himself.

TMZ reports that, even though Bynes' situation seemed a bit tricky at first, she might still walk out of this with just a slap on the wrist.

For one, she was charged with just driving under the influence and not with hit and run, because there was no proof she'd actually hit the police car.

Even so, the star is not taking it lying down. In fact, she's reached out to none other than Barack Obama for help – on Twitter, no less.

“Hey @BarackObama... I don't drink. Please fire the cop who arrested me. I also don't hit and run. The end,” the actress wrote the moment she was formally charged.

This tweet seems to hint that Bynes isn't so much worried about going to jail – which won't happen, because her sentencing will be more of a formality than anything else – but rather about her reputation, about having people say of her she was caught drunk behind the wheel.

“Bynes has been charged with one count of misdemeanor DUI – and the DA has sought a sentencing enhancement because the actress refused to take either a breathalyzer or a blood test. Bynes has not been charged with hit-and-run,” TMZ notes.

“If convicted – with the sentencing enhancement – we're told Bynes faces a minimum of 48 hours in jail and a maximum of 6 months. But because of jail overcrowding, it's unlikely Bynes will ever serve longer than a few hours,” adds the same report.

As we also noted shortly after the much mediated arrest, Bynes' father insisted that his daughter didn't drink and certainly had not gotten in her car intoxicated on that particular occasion.

When she was arrested she was “upset” and “terribly emotional,” he explained at the time. She probably refused to take the breathalyzer on the same count.

As of now, Obama is yet to respond to Amanda's tweet / plea for help.
