Ariel Castro has taken the plea bargain offered to him in the kidnapping, rape, and assault case of Amanda Berry and two other women in Cleveland.

As I said previously, entering the guilty plea has saved him from the death penalty. He will now be serving life in prison without the possibility of parole.

ABC reports that he has been sentenced to life in prison and 1,000 years in jail apart from that. He pleaded guilty to 937 of the 977 charges he was facing.

Official sentencing will take place on August 1, and Castro is expecting to "get pretty much the book thrown at" him.

"Amanda, Gina, and Michelle are relieved by today's plea," relayed reps for the Jones Day law firm, representing the girls. They are happy to not have to testify.
