So he took it, as the video below can confirm.
The Challenge presents you with 2 choices, once you’re nominated by one of your friends, so you have 24 hours either to pour a bucket of ice water over your head and capture it all on video, or donate money to charity.
Because it’s easier to do the former, many celebrities have opted for it, especially since it also translates into a boost of attention for their career. Sir Patrick Stewart knows what’s really important.
So, in the video, he’s shown writing a check. He doesn’t say a word, neither about the amount of money he’s donating (which is perhaps the most amazing part of his amazing gesture) nor about what he plans to do next, so when he pulls an ice bucket on the table in front of him, you get the impression that he’s about to dump it over his head.
He doesn’t. What he does instead shows that he knows the importance of such a campaign and that he chooses to contribute to the cause by letting his money do all the talking for him. He deserves praise for being a true gentleman and kind heart. And for being this awesome.
