A former employee of AltaMed Medical Group is currently investigated for identity theft based on evidence found by the police regarding personal information of individuals.

On June 30, a hard drive was also recovered by the law enforcement from the suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed.

Starting from this information, the company deployed an internal investigation on its own, in order to determine the data its former employee had access to.

The police, citing its ongoing investigation, did not provide AltaMed with any additional details that could tie the personal information found in the possession of the suspect to clients of the clinics.

Following the verification, AltaMed determined that, during the employment period, the individual accessed details about the patients at locations in Orange and Los Angeles Counties, such as their names and addresses.

Given the potential risk of exposure, the company decided to inform its clients of the incident in order to remain vigilant against identity or fraud attempts.

“We take the security of your personal information very seriously. At this time, we cannot confirm whether the information recovered from this former employee included information relating to you,” the notification to the customers reads.

The letter to the clients also informs that the affected individuals benefit from complimentary one year identity protection.
