The Alpine Team announced that Alpine Linux 2.3.0, a community-developed operating system designed for x86 Routers, Firewalls, VPNs, VoIP and servers, is now available.

Alpine Linux 2.3.0 brings a lot of new features. The most important one is the use of a new Linux kernel, from the 3.0 series.

It's also based on GCC 4.6, and setup scripts have been improved with tools for helping configure local config backup location and package manager cache.

Also, Busybox has been upgraded to version 1.19.2, with shell history search (with ctrl-r), setup-bootable now uses UUID as a default application, and there is better multi-ISP support in pingu.

A couple of applications have been upgraded: PostgreSQL is now at version 9.1 and Kamailio is at version 3.2.
