Obsidian Entertainment's Alpha Protocol was supposed to have a launch date of
October 6, and officially it still has, but there is a foul voice in the air and unrest rises. Game stores that once had the game marked as available in a far more upcoming date have now listed different ones. GameStop has moved the games release date to June 1, 2010 while Amazon has it for June 30, same year. The information is provided by Kotaku gaming site and disappoints a lot of people who await the game.
Official statements have yet to be released regarding this delay, as game publisher Sega leaves this to wander around the net as an unconfirmed rumor. Still, in view of the espionage RPG's history, a huge delay wouldn't be a shock. A previous release date for the game was set in February, this year. Another thing to confirm this rumor would be the comment made by a Sony product evaluator, which got leaked on Sega's press site. The comment made critical remarks regarding Alpha Protocol, and said that game “felt barely RPG" and was "too challenging."
Obsidian didn't take this comment sitting down, and marketing manager Mathew Rorie quickly posted a reply on the game's official forum. "We're not really sure how much this gentleman played of Alpha Protocol, or what his ideas of an RPG are. Suffice to say, the game is 100 percent an RPG; we don't really make any other kind of game."
If we take into consideration just how credible each side is, Obsidian would come on top. Like they said, their company has so far developed RPGs and nothing else and quite good ones too. So they should know what an RPG is. The games that have left the studio production line include Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II The Sith Lords, Neverwinter Nights 2, Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer as well as the Neverwinter Nights 2:
Storm of Zehir. Still, it seems they did delay the game for roughly eight months, so things are very unclear at this point.
