Fernando Alonso admitted that he is still very affected of what happened at Monza less than 2 weeks ago. The Spaniard crashed out of the Italian GP at mid race and saw Michael Schumacher get closer to him in the overall standings. The Ferrari driver is now only 2 points behind, and Monza had a lot to do with it.
Being that it was Alonso’s first mechanical crash this
season, the Spaniard has to focus on the next race and forget all that happened in the past. With all the pressure on him right now – since he was previously holding a 25-point advantage over Schumacher – Alonso admitted that thinking about Monza could only damage his interests.
"
I put it out of my head for this race and the rest of the championship, but I will not put it out of my head in my career or in my life, never. In my entire career I will have some memories and some feelings that happened in go karts, in many races I did in 20 years, and what happened in Monza will always be there", said Alonso.
The Renault driver agreed that Ferrari has done a lot better recently – and the constructors’ standings show that – but is very confident that he’s going to repeat his Chinese GP success one season ago. The Spaniard won here last year, ahead of then-rival Kimi Raikkonen, while Schumacher is still to win a point at Shanghai.
As for the Monza incidents during the qualifying round, when he was pulled back 5 positions on the starting grid because of allegedly blocking Massa on the track, Alonso did not change his opinion about the FIA officials. He then stated that Formula One is anything but a sport, while his team boss Flavio Briattore accused: "
Calciopoli (Italian football scandal) is nothing compared to Formula One".
"
I feel the same and when I say something it is because I think that. It is not because I am angry, but because I feel that. Many people feel that but nobody says it. It is my job, my life, F1. I enjoy so much driving the car but when I came here I still think in the same. In other categories there is sport, but here there is a little bit of everything", added Alonso.
The Chinese GP will get under way this Sunday, at the Shanghai circuit. The race will start at 8.00 CET Sunday morning, while the qualifying round will get under way on Saturday, same time.
