Once Michael Schumacher started the psychological battle before the Chinese GP, Fernando Alonso couldn't have just sat and watch. After all, the Spaniard is still leading the overall standings and has to maintain the 2-point advantage for only 3 more races. Still, with Renault's poor performances during the last races, Alonso felt the need to give himself and his team a boost for the upcoming clashes.

"This is Michael's last chance of winning another Formula One title. I have plenty of years ahead of me and that takes a lot of pressure off my shoulders. The pressure is all on Schumacher, since he will retire at the end of the season", said Alonso regarding
his rival for the title.

The Spaniard fairly admitted, though, that Schumacher's contribution to the world of Formula One has been significant: "He has changed the image of the sport throughout the world. Nobody will be able to equal his records in the future. But that doesn't mean the title will not mean the same after he'll retire. No matter how much the fans love him, the world title will mean as much to as it does now, even with Michael out of the picture".

"His records will stay untouched for many years because it is impossible to conquer as much as he did by racing a competitive car for that long", added the Renault driver.

As for his move to McLaren, Alonso told the Renault official site that this was his best choice for the future, especially since his all-time dream is to beat Ferrari. Actually, this was the main reason why he chose not to sign the Reds.

"Ferrari never approached me, but I wouldn't have signed with them anyway. I prefer running for another team and beat the Italians. I always had the impression that, no matter the position they're in during the season, Ferrari is always looked upon as the team to beat", said Alonso.

As for the Chinese GP coming up this weekend, Alonso has only good memories about Shanghai: "I remember this circuit very well, because this is where we won the constructors' title last year. It's a circuit that I like very much and we will try to make the best of it. This end of the season will be important for us for many reasons. It will be Michelin's last season in Formula One and we want to make give them a fine exit".

"The start of the season, we were 95% of our capability. The rest of the season we were down to 70%. Now, I think we are 98, perhaps 99% and we'll work hard to win this. It's hard to analyze it, but we'll do our best to reach our goals: clinch the pole position and win the race", concluded the world champ.
