Maybe even turn up a profit

David Gardner, who was recently appointed to the top position at Infogrames, the French based company that now own most of the Atari intellectual property and name, has recently come clean on his expectations regarding the upcoming title Alone in the Dark. He said: "We want to stop losing money ... This management's team number one goal is to get a business plan together that gets us to a break-even level." And the number one vehicle to attain this goal is the Alone in the Dark re-invention.

No clear timetable was given for this attempt to get the finances of the company in order. Gardner said he wanted the United States element of the company, Atari Inc., to become a more important contributor to the global revenue stream. He also stated that no offer had been launched for the company, which has a market value of around 257 million dollars.

Alone in the Dark will again put the player in the shoes of Edward Carnby, the main protagonist from the original game, who is now looking for answers to some strange supernatural occurrences while also battling his way through the opposition in New York City's Central Park. It all takes place over the course of one night and horror elements are given.

The game story centers around myths, allegations, and suspicions of clandestine activity in tunnels found below the park. A secret society may have an at least minor degree of involvement in the activities of the game's plot. This shadowy society, or organization, is hinted at in the synopsis found in the official game website, and is said to have protected startling secrets from the public, like possible sinister activities in the park, for years.

Apparently, the new game will be delivered in episodic format, with more adventures becoming available after the initial launch date. Look for Alone in the Dark starting May in Europe and June in America, for the PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 2.
