Alone in the Dark is considered to be the game that can save Atari from perish and offer a bit more vitality to the renowned game developer. Not to mention the fact that the game really seems to be a masterpiece, if we are to judge all the trailers we have seen so far (and we urge you to download them below if you haven't already done it). Anyway, as you probably already know, the game was slated for a May 2008 release in Europe, while the North American version was set for June.

According to videogaming247, who got confirmation on the release dates, the European version was delayed a little bit. This means that Alone in the Dark will be released on the 20th of June in Europe and the 24th of June in the US. These dates relate to the 360, PC, PS2 and Wii versions, a PlayStation 3 release being expected for later this year.

"The game has been delayed to allow Eden Games - obviously, they're an Atari-owned studio - to polish the game to an even higher standard. We want to deliver the best possible experience to gamers, because we have a remarkable product," an unnamed rep told videogaming247. "We've been getting an incredible response from the people that have seen it in demos. We'll soon be supplying code to the market."

We don't really know whether the game got delayed for further polishing or whether there are other hidden reasons involved, but as long as we receive the quality product we're expecting Alone in the Dark to be, we don't really care much. But one thing we're really hoping for is that Atari will manage to stay alive and continue to deliver us the quality products we're used to.

Alone in the Dark is inspired from the presentation style and structure of a number of TV action dramas and it is split into distinct episodes in a season-style format (each episode consisting of about 30-40 minutes of gameplay).
