More evidence on the new features to be included in Windows 8.1 emerged today, as the Redmond-based tech giant is reportedly prepping an option that would allow users to skip the Start Screen and boot directly to desktop.

While references for such an option have already been discovered, a report published by The Verge and quoting anonymous sources claims that Microsoft plans to offer this option turned off by default, but users who’ll want to get straight to the desktop after Windows 8.1 boot will be allowed to do so by quickly enabling it.

Interestingly, Microsoft will leave the hot corners options untouched, so you’ll still be able to see the Start Screen whenever you click on the left bottom corner.

In addition, rumor has it that Microsoft is planning to bring back the Start button in Windows 8.1, a decision that would clearly please thousands of users who can’t get accustomed to the Start Screen.
