Microsoft is now offering an updated version of the Windows 7 Application Compatibility List for IT Professionals, featuring information on more products than ever before. In fact, almost 20,000 items are now included in the list provided by the software giant to IT pros on the software solutions that are designed to play nice with the latest iteration of the Windows client.

More exactly, a total of 19,552 applications are now listed by the Redmond company, allowing customers to easily check whether a specific software offering integrates seamlessly with Windows 7 or not.

“The Windows 7 Application Compatibility List for IT Professionals is a Microsoft Office Excel-based spreadsheet listing software applications and respective 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7 compatibility information,” Microsoft stated.

“Compatibility information has been verified by either the software publisher or by the Windows 7 Logo Program testing requirements.”

IT professionals, but also additional users are undoubtedly already familiar with the Windows 7 Application Compatibility List.

Microsoft has been issuing updates to the Excel spreadsheet for a while now, and the company shows no signs of stopping.

However, updating slowed down a bit this year. Following the delivery of the Windows 7 Application Compatibility List for IT Professionals updates were served extremely frequently, even just a few weeks apart.

At the end of June 2010, Microsoft’s Chris Jackson revealed that the Redmond company had diverged from the refresh schedule for the Windows 7 app compatibility list because the team behind the resource had major updates planned.

“This list includes applications with the following compatibility statuses: “Compatible,” “Free Update Required,” “Paid Update Required,” “Future Compatibility,” and “Not Compatible.”

“These statuses are based upon the software publishers’ statements of compatibility. These products have not met the Windows 7 Logo Program testing requirements,” Microsoft added.
