Mobile phone carrier Alltel Wireless and Samsung Mobile announced today the launch of Samsung DoubleTake, a new messaging handset for the operator's users. Starting with Thursday, November 5, the new device from Samsung will be available for purchase in all Alltel retail stores and online from the carrier's website.

What the new phone is set to deliver to users includes a sliding full QWERTY keyboard, which can prove a great option when it comes to sending text messages, a vibrant, full-color external LCD screen, a 1.3-megapixel camera, an internal phone book with up to 1,000 entries, and two color options, including bold red and sleek charcoal gray.

“The Samsung DoubleTake is a user-friendly, affordable phone that allows Alltel customers to stay connected as they beat the holiday rush,” said Wendy Michell, Director of Device Strategies for the Alltel Divesture Trust. “If you’re always on the go, the Samsung DoubleTake will be the perfect holiday gift.”

The new Samsung DoubleTake is set to become available for purchase from Alltel Wireless for a price tag set at $39.99 after the signing of a one-year contract agreement with the carrier and after a $50 mail-in rebate. According to Alltel, its users can enjoy two-year postpaid handset pricing while signing one-year contract agreements, which delivers a level of flexibility that no other carrier in the country offers. The mobile phone operator also announced that the new Samsung DoubleTake and the one-year contract offering are available for the customers in the 91 cellular market areas (CMAs) that Verizon Wireless has to divest, and which will operate as Alltel Wireless until the Department of Justice and Federal Communications Commission approve the sale agreements with AT&T and Atlantic Tele-Network.

Those who would like to learn more details on the carrier's offering, as well as on the sale of the divested markets, should head towards Alltel's website here.
