Alltel Wireless announced on Tuesday a new promotion meant to attract subscribers to its network during the Back to School period. According to the company, new and existing customers on “My Circle” plans, Smart Choice Packs, and Bundled Wireless Internet plans are offered the possibility to add a number of up to four lines to the primary account, while paying only a $25 activation fee per line. At the same time, they will also receive three months of free service on the newly activated lines. The new promotion will end on September 10, the carrier adds.

Alltel has always placed a special emphasis on keeping families connected, and with this Back to School promotion, the entire family can talk, text or surf the Internet for less money and enjoy more flexibility in their wireless experience,” said Paul Bowersock, senior Sales & Operations leader for the Alltel Divesture Trust. The My Circle plans, in case you are not aware of it, offer unlimited calling to and from any 5, 15, or 25 numbers on any network.

For those who might not know this already, Alltel offers a wide range of handsets to its customers, including the LG Banter, a mobile phone that comes to the carrier's customers loaded with Alltel Email, Yahoo! IM and AOL IM. The device includes a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard and comes for free with a qualifying rate plan, the signing of a 1-year service agreement and after a $50 mail-in rebate.

In addition, the carrier also announced that those who signed a 1-year service agreement with it would benefit from the opportunity to acquire their mobile phones with 2-year postpaid pricing. At the same time, Alltel also stated that those who added a new line to their plan with the new Back to School promotion became eligible for a 1-year contract.

The mobile phone operator said that the new Back to School promotion and 1-year contract option were only available to users in the 91 cellular market areas (CMAs) that Verizon Wireless had to divest, and which would remain Alltel Wireless until the Department of Justice and Federal Communications Commission approved the sale deals with AT&T and Atlantic Tele-Network.
