It looks like Verizon Wireless will no longer accept Alltel devices to be activated on its network effective January 16. According to Verizon, the decision is based on its need to provide better customer support and a better range of products.

In the same news, Alltel has just introduced the Samsung Repp Android-based budget-friendly smartphone, which can now be purchased for only $1 with a new two-year agreement.

However, customers who want to switch their Alltel devices to Verizon Wireless’ network should probably hurry to the closest Big Red store.

Here is an excerpt of Verizon’s statement regarding this strategic decision: “This change is taking place in order to provide the best customer experience by ensuring all our customers have access to take advantage of Verizon’s full suite of products and features.”
