One of the handsets that Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile might bring to the market before the end of this year is said to be the Xperia Z2 Ultra, which made it to the headlines before, but which hasn’t been confirmed as of now.

In fact, some of the previous rumors on the matter suggested that Sony might never launch a successor for the Xperia Z Ultra, yet new info on the device claims that it is real and that it will arrive on shelves with some powerful hardware inside.

According to a post on AndroidSaS, Xperia Z2 Ultra will be launched with the same size as the predecessor, thus boasting a 6.44-inch touchscreen display.

The one thing that hasn’t been confirmed as of now, however, is whether the screen will be capable of delivering a Quad HD resolution, or will be only a 1080p one.

One way or the other, the new mobile phone should be capable of delivering high-end performance levels to all of its users, it seems.

It should arrive on the market with a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm MSM8974AB Snapdragon 801 process, the same as the Xperia Z2 before it. The handset is also said to sport 3GB of RAM, which will ensure the aforementioned high-end performance capabilities.

Moreover, the mobile phone is expected to go official with 16GB of internal memory, as well as with a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.

On the back, it should feature a 20.7-megapixel camera, the same as the Xperia Z2 did, with LED flash and support for 4K video recording. A 2MP front camera will also be present on the device, allowing users to easily make video calls while on the go.

The Sony Xperia Z2 Ultra is said to include a 3400mAh battery, which should ensure pretty decent usage times. The usual set of connectivity capabilities and sensors should also be present on the smartphone.

Moreover, it appears that Sony will make the new handset dust- and water-resistant, the same as the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z Ultra did before it. We should also see the new phone featuring the same slim design as last year’s large handset.

At the moment, the phone is said to be running under the Android 4.4.3 KitKat operating system, though Sony might actually release it with a newer OS flavor loaded on top.

Unfortunately, no specific info on when the device will go official has been provided as of now. With no confirmation on its existence available either, we’ll take the info above with a grain of salt, though we’ll keep an eye out for more on the matter, so stay tuned.
