Google is gearing up for the release of a new flavor of their mobile operating system, supposedly called Ice Cream Sandwich and expected to arrive on shelves on a new Google phone, the long-rumored Nexus Prime, which allegedly can be seen in the photo to the left.

It is not an image of the entire device, but it supposedly shows a part of the screen of what should become Nexus Prime in the coming weeks.

Moreover, the photo (available via GSM Arena) unveils some technical specs of the upcoming handset, including the fact that it should arrive on shelves with a 1280 x 720 pixels screen.

The image shows a 1184 x 720 pixels resolution being displayed on the phone's screen, but it seems that the 1184number does not include the status bar on the top, nor the soft buttons that the handset should sport at the bottom.

The 720p HD touchscreen is said to measure 4.6-inches in diagonal, which will make Nexus Prime one of the largest smartphones on the market at the moment. It is also unveiled to sport a pixel density of over 320 dpi.

One other interesting tidbit that has been unveiled now is the fact that the new Nexus device might not arrive on shelves with hard buttons on the front.

This would be one of the features that could make it in all other handsets running under Android from Ice Cream Sandwich up, after being introduced in the Honeycomb platform version, where users do not need the hardware buttons to navigate through the OS' menus.

Unfortunately, no other details on this mobile phone are available at the moment, nor on the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system that will power it.

However, rumor has it that both of them might become official as soon as next week, during an Unpacked Event that Samsung and Google will be hosting together, so keep an eye on this space for additional details on the matter.
