Following the Nexus S, which comes with it right from the start, Motorola's DROID X seems to be the first handset that runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, at least this is what the video embedded at the bottom of this article supposedly shows.

We already knew that Google and mobile phone makers around the world committed to releasing the software update to various devices that currently run under the Android 2.2 OS version, but the first one to receive the solution was said to be Nexus One, the first Google phone.

However, a recent article on BGR brought to light the aforementioned video, which allegedly shows that DROID X by Motorola is running under the latest version of Google's mobile operating system.

The software on DROID X is reportedly build number of VZW-TestKeys-280657, with baseband version BP_C_01.09.07P.

There are great chances that the OS would be a very early alpha build of the future Android 2.3 Gingerbread ROM for Motorola DROID X, though this hasn't been confirmed for the time being.

Another possibility would be that this software is the ApeX ROM, which was skinned to resemble the new Android 2.3 operating system flavor.

What's interesting is that the Motorola MOTOBLUR user interface is said to be merely a “background service used to improve the functionality and linkage of Google Apps.”

Provided that the video below is indeed a real deal, it seems that very interesting features would be on their way to DROID X owners in the future.

However, there are no specific details available on when the Android 2.3 OS would be released for the handset, nor for other Android phones from Motorola.

It's still early to tell whether Motorola would hurry with the release of such an update or not but, based on the company's history with Android upgrades, we should expect it to make such solutions available at least for the latest high-end device is released, such as DROID X, DROID 2, DROID 2 Global, or DROID Pro.
