A teenage girl from Forest Grove, Oregon has called the police for them to deal with a “giant” spider. News broke earlier this week that she called 911 and they were kind enough to assist.

However, she dismisses the rumors in an interview with KPTV. Her call has been posted below this news blog. Makenna called a non-emergency police number at the time.

Her mom also mentions that the teen suffers from muscular dystrophy, which renders her unable to perform simple daily chores.

Makenna starts off the hilarious conversation by admitting that her reason for calling is quite ridiculous.

However, she discusses the size of the insect in a manner that could make officials believe that it is a threat to her and others.

"I'm home alone and there is a giant spider on the back of my couch, and I'm talking giant. I've never seen a spider this big and I have no idea what to do. [...] It's probably the size of a baseball,” she says.

She adds that she is home alone and that her mother has recently been hospitalized over a spider bite.

She asks the dispatcher for advice and he is so surprised that he doesn't know how to react. As she mentions that the spider is as big as a tarantula, he agrees to send someone to her home.

However, when officers got there, they found a small spider which they squashed with a newspaper.

"I didn't call 911. [...] I didn't think it was that big of a deal. I basically called the dispatcher looking for advice," Makenna Sewell explains.

The spider incident took place on August 16, and Makenna did not tell the police operator about her medical issues.

"I think that raised awareness for her and why she was so wanting to get help," her mother says.

She added that the spider was tested and a lab identified it as a brown recluse, which is poisonous. It is not often seen in Oregon.

"I feel pretty fortunate to live in a town where I know that something minor like a spider, I can call and there will be someone to help me," Makenna says.
