The other day, about a week or so after her ex Nick Lachey announced his engagement, Jessica Simpson confirmed that she and NFL beau Eric Johnson were also engaged. People has all the details on the ring.

According to reports in the US media, Eric popped the question to Jessica at 11:11 in the morning on 11/11, presumably for good luck and/or because the singer is partial to that number.

What is known for certain is that he got down on one knee and offered her a gold and ruby engagement ring, one for which he’d supposedly scurried specialized stores for a very long time.

Understandably, he wanted to make the occasion a very memorable one since, at least in theory, a girl only gets proposed to and married once in her life.

“Eric wanted the most romantic, beautiful, special ring for Jessica,” celebrity jeweler Neil Lane says for People. Thus, he came across the special design he eventually chose for his lover.

“A three-stone Lane sparkler with a large central ruby – over 5 carats! – flanked by two pear-shaped diamonds, also more than 5 carats,” the magazine says.

Ruby, it turns out, is Jessica’s birthstone – but it also stands for pure love, as the celebrity jeweler explains for the same publication.

“The ruby is a stone of love and it is the most romantic gem and it’s very rare and very, very special,” Lane explains.

Inside sources also tell the media that Jessica was not only completely taken by surprise by the proposal, but also quite “thrilled” about the ring.

Judging by how proudly she showed it off during an appearance over the weekend, after her rep had just confirmed the engagement news to the media, it’s clear that Jessica is happy about her sparkler.

As we also noted the other day, Jessica and Eric started dating back in May, when his divorce was not yet finalized. This would be Jessica’s second marriage as well, having previously been with Nick Lachey – who, last week, got engaged to Jessica’s former best friend, Vanessa Minnillo.
