Among them are “Top Gun 2,” “Independence Day 2,” “Ghostbusters 4” and “Die Hard 6”

There are a lot of good 80s and 90s movies getting sequels in the near future. The question is: will they be good?

It was a blast being a kid in the ‘80s and ‘90s. Life seemed to be so much simpler then and trends not so fleeting. There were fewer things to keep up with in order to be cool, and, most of all, movies used to be cool. So cool in fact, that Hollywood is still leaching off of those movies and TV stations are still airing them with good ratings.

While the last couple of years have seen a lot of ‘80s and ‘90s movie franchises being continued or rebooted to varying degrees of success, the coming years, 2015 and 2016 are positively packed with sequels and/or reboots that are going to get people who grew up during those decades very excited.

2015 has some good movies already confirmed, some already finished and others still in production, but since their names keep popping up constantly in the news, it's safe to say that interest for them is high. For example, let's take the Terminator franchise.

The movie “Terminator: Genesis” is not only going to star Arnold Schwarzenegger as the old cyborg, but it will also star the “Game of Thrones” actress Emilia Clarke, who has become the darling of the internet and social media since her role of “The Mother of Dragons” on the show.

Also coming in 2015 is “Jurassic World,” a direct sequel to Steven Spielberg's 1993 hit film about dinosaurs that created some classic movie scenes as well as some memorable characters. Sadly, this version won't star any of the original actors so it's likely that it will search to take the action in a different direction.

The action movie franchise “Mission: Impossible” is continuing this year with its fifth installment. Unlike the previous movies, this franchise has been constantly adding new movies to its collection, the last being “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” also starring the original actor Tom Cruise. This fifth part is going to revolve around the adventures of agent Ethan Hunt and his IMF team.

Of course, sci-fi fans will know that 2015 is the year that the highly anticipated “Star Wars: Episode VII” comes out, under the direction of J.J. Abrams. The director has announced that many of the actors of the original cast are going to be featured in this one, including Mike Hammil, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford. Fans are hoping that the movie is going to return to its original darker tone, and move away from the cartoonish imagery of the last couple of episodes.

And if you thought that was exciting, wait until you hear about the movies that are coming out in 2016. One of the most exciting has to be the end-of-the-world film “Independence Day 2,” the direct continuation of the ‘90s film that starred Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum as a pair of alien-fighting heroes who save mankind from extinction.

Fresh from the internet is the news that the “Beverly Hills Cop” franchise is also getting a continuation with a fourth part. The movie has just been greenlit and it was announced that it was coming out in March 2016. The fact that it stars Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley is sure to draw many people in the cinemas.

The “Ghostbusters 3” sequel has still to be given an official launch date, but all clues point to a 2016 release. It's going to be very entertaining to see all the original actors, minus Harold Ramis who passed away earlier this year, reprise their roles as the odd men fighting ghosts as if they were pests. Those who don't know what we're talking about need to grab a copy of the trilogy ASAP.

Of course, apart from the movies that have been confirmed, there is an additional category which is called “TBA” or “To Be Announced.” In this category, you'll find many popular titles that will get your hopes up for the coming years of cinematography.

The best one has to be “Top Gun 2.” For those of you born after the ‘90s, let's get one thing straight: this was the most awesome action movie ever made as far as people were concerned back when it came out.

It not only went on to become a classic, but it also got the Air Force more recruits than it could shake a stick at. Boys from all over the world wanted to become fighter pilots after seeing Tom Cruise in “Top Gun” and patriotism was at an all-time high. The sequel is slated to star Tom Cruise again, and it's going to tell the tale of the battle between human pilots and drones.

Other titles include “Die Hard 6” which is rumored to not only star Bruce Willis but also Samuel L. Jackson, “Mad Max,” “Tron: Legacy” and even “Mrs. Doubtfire 2” which is going to star Robbie Williams as the male nanny in disguise.

As you can see, there are plenty of reasons for you to keep going to the cinema in the coming years. But, keep in mind that, as always, a sequel or a reboot won't do the original movie justice and underperform in such a way that it will disappoint fans. Unfortunately, there is no refund on cinema tickets in such a case, nor on your shattered childhood dreams..
