inXile, makers of Wasteland 2, teased an exciting announcement for owners of the game yesterday, and today they are back with news about their plans for the next couple of months.

Many of you probably know by now that inXile confirmed it would launch Wasteland 2: Game of the Year Edition, but few expected to get the game for free.

That's right, inXile has just announced that Wasteland 2: Game of the Year Edition will be available for free to all owners of the game regardless how they supported the game by being backer, late backers or if they purchased it later on.

The game will be delivered as a free update to all owners of Wasteland 2 on Windows, Mac or Linux, when it launches in late summer.

The GOTY Edition will be packed with lots of improvements

Wasteland 2: Game of the Year Edition will be packed with lots of new features and improvements. The most important would be the fact that the game will make the jump to Unity 5, the latest version of the game engine, which should update environment textures and completely reduce all character models.

A large amount of new voice-over will be implemented as well, with the purpose of enriching the game's cast of characters, including players trusted companions.

More importantly, the Game of the Year Edition will bring major enhancements to gameplay, such as a new Perk & Quirks system, which has more than 80 perks and 20 quirks.

Then there is the new Precision Strike system that will allow players to target individual body parts on enemies in order to gain better advantages in battles.

The game balance will be adjusted as well, along with item drops. Developers also stated that they have reworked the majority of combat encounters throughout the game.

No exact release date has been announced, but we expect more details on the matter to emerge as we're getting closer to the end of the summer. So there you have it folks, if you own Wasteland 2, you will get the GOTY edition for free.
