SoundCloud, despite trying to expand its view and to welcome podcasters and anyone else needing a simple way of recording, storing and publishing audio clips, is still very much about the music.

The site caught on especially well with budding artists since it offered not only a way of hosting their tracks online but also a built-in audience with viral potential.

The new link-up with Ableton makes a lot of sense though, the German audio software maker is offering five months of SoundCloud Pro for free with Ableton Live 8 and Suite 8.

Ableton Live is pretty much the standard for electronic musicians when it comes to live performances. It's quite useful to producers as well.

Now, to celebrate the fact that Ableton Live 8 currently comes with SoundCloud sharing built-in, the two companies are offering the cloud service for free to Ableton users.

"Ableton now comes with SoundCloud sharing baked in – yes, upload straight to SoundCloud. To celebrate, SoundCloud is offering Ableton users 5 months of SoundCloud Pro, for free," SoundCloud announced.

"So what does the SoundCloud community get? Ableton has been generous enough to offer the entire SoundCloud community a free copy of Live Lite 8 so that everyone can get started making their own sounds," it added.

Live Lite, as the name suggests, is a lightweight version of the product, it's more than just a demo, but it's not as powerful as the full product. The version is regularly bundled with USB controllers and the like and now Ableton is using it to entice SoundCloud users to give the software a try.

Any SoundCloud user is welcomed to grab a copy of Live Lite 8, a code should be landing in their email within two weeks, as long as they're signed up to the newsletter. The codes have to be redeemed by the end of the month since SoundCloud has a competition for Live users coming in the next month.
