14 DAY TRIAL // A ‘re-imagined’ version of Tetris is available for download in the iTunes App Store, Electronic Arts has announced, featuring an all-new one-touch mode and a new level-based Galaxy Mode, where players can employ power ups.
“The TETRIS game re-imagined Discover an all-new Tetris Universe. Join the One-Touch revolution now and experience visionary new ways to play,” says Electronic Arts.
On iTunes, the developer encourages fans to check out the “radical new features” like a brand new level-based Galaxy Mode, where players can use game-changing power ups to dig down and shatter their scores, and a One-Touch Marathon Mode, which provides a simpler control scheme specifically designed for the touch-screen interface.
A Tetris Log system delivers new challenges, and the Tetris Rank feature tracks players’ lifetime “lines cleared” to assign an overall rank. There’s also the ability to subscribe to the T-Club (for a whopping $2.99 a month).
The T-Club is described as “the only Tetris fan club to give members exclusive access to new mobile challenges and content.”
Editor’s note: A monthly, paid Tetris subscription is probably the last thing I thought I’d ever see, but I guess stranger things have happened.
“The Tetris App for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch was specifically designed to let players experience a re-imagined Tetris universe including the traditional Tetris gameplay they know and love,” said Bernard Kim, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for EA Interactive. “The innovative new features are sure to bring hours of frenzied fun for both newcomers and seasoned Tetris fans.”
The iOS Tetris game replaces the former one available from EA on the App Store. Available now for a special introductory rate of $0.99 / 0.79€, the title is not provided as a free download for existing owners of the former (which sucks).
The game is not optimized for iPad, though it will work on the tablet.
