Windows Phone 7 is the next major mobile operating system version Redmond-based Microsoft is set to push to the market before the end of the ongoing year. When compared to previous versions of the platform, the new OS comes with a great deal of enhancements, and it seems that Microsoft is pretty content with what it managed to achieve with it so far, even if the company's CEO said recently that Microsoft is one Windows Phone version behind.

Windows Phone 7 might indeed be the solution that would make Microsoft proud of itself on the current mobile space, even if there are some who expect it to prove a failure straight from day one. Microsoft is reportedly so happy about the platform that it plans on providing each and every one of its employees with a device powered by the upcoming operating system, at least this is what a recent article on Gizmodo notes.

“With all the buzz, a lot of you are asking how you can get your hands on a phone and get more involved. So, I am thrilled to announce that a new Windows Phone 7 will be made available to every Microsoft employee as we launch in each market around the world. The process will vary based on your market, your carrier, and your launch date so stay tuned for more information closer to launch,” is what an internal mail from from Andy Lees, Microsoft's Senior VP of mobile stuff, reportedly states.

Undoubtedly, Windows Phone 7 promises a great change from the previous versions of Microsoft's mobile OS, but things might not look that good for it. When launched on the market later this year, the platform would face strong competition from solutions like Google's Android OS, Apple's iPhone platform, and even RIM's new BlackBerry 6 solution.

It is also woth mentioning that WP7's predecessor, KIN, had a very short life on the market. One way or the other, it remains to be seen if Microsoft would indeed sell 30 million WP7 devices by the end of 2011, as well as whether the company would ban the use of iPhone devices at its headquarters.
