The developers at Neocore Games and publisher Paradox Interactive have announced that starting today all those who pre-order the upcoming King Arthur II – The Role-playing Wargame will get access to a Prologue Chapter called Dead Legions for free.

This new content will be offered to all those who place a pre-order immediately and will allow those on Steam to play a small part of the game while they wait for the official launch date for the full game, which was set to take place early next week and is now slated simply for January.

The developers describe the Dead Legions campaign as “a tale of revival, resurrection and revenge; the chronicle of how the greatest adversary of King Arthur came into power – and the terrible price he had to pay.”

They add, “The fate of the Romans lies in the hands of a noble man Septimus Sulla while the Once and Future King lies wounded in the south. The time has come to unearth the secrets of Hadrian’s Wall while venturing into the mists of the underworld to find the fabled ghost legions of Rome.”

King Arthur II promises to update the mechanics of the original game in the series and expand on Neocore Games vision of a hybrid between a real time strategy game with a tactics element and a role playing game.

Players will have more options when it comes to developing their own characters, both through decisions taken in text adventures and via artifacts and the armies that they lead.

The real time battles have also been enhanced, with less of an importance placed on the strategic locations spread all over the map and more of an emphasis put on the way use of magic can break an enemy force.
