Single-player-only titles no longer have an audience

The main designer behind franchises like Ratchet & Clank and Resistance believes that his studio will, from now on, only work on video games that have a social or multiplayer component because the industry no longer supports single-player-only titles.

Ted Price, who is the leader of Insomniac, has told Gamespot that, “I can’t imagine that any game we’d do from here on out will be single-player-only. As gamers, we have always been social, but thanks to the way technology has evolved, it’s much easier for us to play together. And it’s much easier for developers to create experiences where you can play together.”

He added, “We understand that a large portion of players are interested in that single-player experience. A lot of us gamers are interested in both. I love single-player games but I also love multiplayer games, and I think that Fuse offers you the opportunity to do both without having to skimp on either side.”

Insomniac has already said that it no longer plans to work on the Resistance series, which was at one point seen as the only series that could challenge Halo and its shooter supremacy.

The company is reorienting towards smaller titles that can be quickly created and allow the team to focus on one element of the game experience.

Price has recently explained that Insomniac wants to communicate more with the player base and create video games that satisfy their expectations.

Insomniac is getting ready to launch Ratchet & Clack: Full Frontal Assault, which will be out before the end of the year on both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, and the company is also working on a new game called Fuse.

The game is being published by Electronic Arts and is set to be launched during March 2013 on home consoles from Sony and Microsoft.
